Dr. Niraalee Shah – State Convenor, Maharashtra
The Responsible Tourism Society of India (RTSOI), formerly known as Ecotourism Society of India (ESOI), is a national non-profit platform dedicated to advancing environmentally responsible and sustainable practices within India’s tourism ecosystem. Established in 2008 at the behest of the Ministry of Tourism, RTSOI was founded by a collective of eco-sensitive tourism leaders, policymakers, conservationists, and Members of Parliament committed to protecting India’s natural and socio-cultural heritage.
Today, RTSOI works in close collaboration with central and state governments, tourism boards, forest departments, NGOs, hospitality leaders, and conscious travel entrepreneurs to promote a unified and action-driven responsible tourism framework across India. The society is open for membership to conscious companies and individuals who wish to walk the Sustainable path and lend support to the cause.
The State Convenor – Maharashtra, Dr. Niraalee Shah leads the state chapter with a mission to integrate sustainability, community empowerment, and ethical travel practices into Maharashtra’s tourism growth story. Under her leadership, RTSOI Maharashtra focuses on policy advocacy, capacity building, youth engagement, sustainable destination development, and industry sensitization—aligning tourism growth with environmental stewardship and community prosperity.
